What Does Dent and Hail Repair Actually Cost?
Short answer: it is priced per dent, not per car — and if hail damage is going through your insurance, most SAN-X customers pay nothing out of pocket. Here is what moves the number.
Get Your Exact Price — FreeThe four things that set the price
- Size and depth. A shallow ding and a deep dent of the same width are not the same job — depth is what takes time.
- Where it sits. A dent in the middle of a door is straightforward. On a body line, a panel edge or a brace, the metal fights back and the work multiplies.
- How many panels. Hail is quoted per panel because the damage is spread across roof, hood and trunk. Two cars from the same storm can be priced very differently.
- Access behind the panel. Paintless repair reaches the back of the metal. When a panel is sealed or full of electronics, getting there is part of the job.
Why we do not publish a price table
Any shop showing a fixed price per dent is either guessing or padding the number to cover the worst case. We would rather look at the car — in person or from your photos — and give you a written figure that does not move. The inspection and the estimate are free either way.
Hail through insurance: usually $0
On qualifying comprehensive hail claims handled by SAN-X, we absorb the deductible up to $2,000, so the repair typically costs you nothing. Amounts above that need owner approval. This applies to hail claims through insurance — not to collision work or out-of-pocket jobs. How we handle the claim.
Why paintless repair costs less than a body shop
Conventional repair means filler, primer, paint, blending into the panels beside it, and days of curing. Paintless dent repair reshapes the original metal and skips all of that — cheaper, faster, and the factory finish stays on the car, which is what protects resale value. More on hail damage repair.
